Discover some of Bangkok’s most magnificent sights using a variety of local transport such as trains, tuk-tuks, canal boats, walking etc. This is an innovative approach to urban travel, avoiding traffic and providing a liberating way to explore the city while supporting local businesses. From the hotel, we’ll head to Bangkok’s ground zero, the City Pillar Shrine, the very first construction by King Rama I when he established Siam’s new capital. We’ll give the crowded Grand Palace a miss, but walk around the outer walls to discover neighboring Wat Pho and the Reclining Buddha. We’ll then explore Bangkok’s oldest market, Tha Tien Market where all the Palace needs were brought from up and down the river. This is a great place to try some local snack specialties. A short ferry ride across the river will bring us to one of Bangkok’s most recognisable landmarks, Wat Arun or Temple of Dawn. Recent restoration work completed decades of cleaning and replacing the original façade and the temple glitters brighter than ever. We can venture up the pagoda steps for spectacular views back across the river to the Grand Palace, before heading back to the hotel.

After meeting your host for the day in the hotel lobby, we’ll make our way to the river pier using a variety of public transport. Your private luxury riverboat will be waiting for you at the hotel’s pier to take you on a half day excursion into lesser visited Bangkok. We’ll cruise up the Chao Phraya River, taking in the many classic sights along the river before entering into a klong (canal) where we’ll disembark for our first stop, a peaceful royal-grade temple with spectacular early Bangkok period murals. We’ll continue our cruise even deeper into the canals for a glimpse into Bangkok’s multicultural neighborhoods, influenced by the Chinese, Muslim and Portuguese early traders.
Our destination will be Poomjai Garden – a sustainable organic garden aimed at “rewilding Bangkok” and preserving native trees, plants, herbs and traditional garden culture of past generations. We’ll have a tour of the garden, a short workshop on making traditional Thai desserts and then enjoy a lunch created from the organic ingredients grown in the surrounding gardens before heading back to the hotel.
