Handcrafted reed mats of plaited reed are a type of local art that has been passed down from generation to generation. Artisans transform the paper reeds, or papyrus, into ropes, dye them and weave them into a sheet. Traditionally, the final product is used as a floor mat for everyday relaxation, leisure activities as well as religious rituals. Just another way that Thailand uses it’s natural resources for practical every-day purposes.
